2. Website delivery and security

This static website is hosted on GitHub Pages and delivered through Cloudflare's network. When you access it, these providers process technically necessary connection and traffic data. This may include your IP address, date and time, requested address, amount of data transferred, referrer, browser and operating-system information, and security-related attributes.

The processing is necessary to deliver the website, maintain its stability and security, and prevent abuse. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is the secure and reliable operation of this business information service.

Recipients or processors, where involved in the relevant processing, are:

• Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, providing DNS, security and delivery services;
• GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P Kelly Jr St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, or the relevant GitHub entity, providing hosting services.

I do not run proprietary visitor analytics or maintain my own web-server logs. The providers may retain technical data in accordance with their contractual and legal requirements. Data is deleted or anonymised when it is no longer needed for delivery and security and no legal obligation requires continued retention.

Processing outside the European Economic Area cannot be ruled out. Where required, providers rely on applicable adequacy decisions or safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

3. Colour scheme

When you switch the website colour scheme, the selected setting is stored under the key olivebytes-theme only in your browser's local storage. It is not transmitted to me or any third party. Its sole purpose is to restore the display you explicitly requested on a later visit. The storage is technically necessary for that purpose under section 25(2)(2) TDDDG. You can change it on the website or remove it in your browser.

4. Contact by email

When you contact me by email, I process the information you provide, particularly your email address, name, organisation, message content and technical email metadata, in order to handle and respond to your enquiry.

Article 6(1)(b) GDPR is the legal basis where the enquiry concerns steps before entering into, or performing, a contract. Other business communication is processed under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; the legitimate interest is the appropriate handling of your enquiry.

Email is processed through Apple iCloud Mail. The provider in the European Economic Area is generally Apple Distribution International Limited, Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland. Apple may also process data in other countries and states that transfers from the EEA are protected, among other means, by standard contractual clauses. Please refer to the Apple Privacy Policy.

Data is deleted once the enquiry has been fully handled unless contractual or statutory retention duties, or legitimate interests in establishing, exercising or defending legal claims, require continued retention.

5. No analytics, advertising or automated decisions

This website uses no analytics or advertising services, social-media plugins, contact forms or newsletter systems. It does not create profiles or make solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. No non-essential cookies are set.

6. Your rights

Subject to the statutory requirements, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and data portability. You may object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

To exercise your rights, email [email protected]. You may also lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority. The competent authority for the controller is, in particular, the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Alt-Moabit 59–61, 10555 Berlin, Germany.

7. Changes

This privacy notice will be updated when the website, its service providers or legal requirements change. The current version date appears above.
